Previously, measuring the quartz tube temperature of a lamp that is in operation (e.g. using thermocouples or resistance wire) has resulted in a lot of problems. The basic disadvantage of this measurement method was and still is, the additional heating of the sensor caused by the IR radiation of the discharge arc, which inevitably falsifies the measurement.

The sensor targets the lamp from a distance of approx. 4 to 10 cm with a measuring spot of 3.8 to 13 mm in diameter. It can be mounted on the rear side of a reflector unit for this, for example, targeting the lamp through an aperture (e.g. an appropriate hole in the case/reflector).
It is important for the arrangement that there is an aperture between lamp and sensor and that the upper limit temperature for the sensor case of 65 °C is complied with. The measurement spot diameter must always be smaller than the surface area to be measured. Soiling of the filter can be reduced by mounting an air-
